ABOUT US

Opera For Us Foundation is a the first opera company founded by a Black woman in the state of Virginia. We are a performing arts organization dedicated to educating and exposing opera, to a wider audience, while amplifying  BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Singers and Performers.  Our mission is to make the beauty and emotion of opera accessible to all, regardless of background or financial means. Through various initiatives and performances, we aim to enrich lives and inspire a love for this timeless art form.

PURPOSE

Our projects range from community opera performances to educational workshops that introduce opera to schools and local communities. By engaging with diverse audiences and creating immersive experiences, we aim to break down barriers and foster a deeper appreciation for this magnificent art form. Our goal with each performance and outreach opportunity is to highlight as many black and brown performers, instrumentalists, and artists as possible.

Kira Jackson, Co Founder and Operations Director of the Contemporary Arts Network

Opera For Us made my grand opening unforgettable. Not only did Denise sing beautifully, but she also created and performed a song uniquely crafted around my path of life. It was powerful, personal, and deeply moving. Her voice carried the spirit of the event and left everyone inspired. She has a rare gift of blending artistry with storytelling, and I am forever grateful for the way she set the tone for such a milestone moment in my journey.
